My name is Amber Melby, I am the founder of B the Light. I am also a breast cancer survivor. At the age of 40, I received a call from my doctor and heard the words no woman wants to hear, “I’m sorry to tell you, but you have invasive lobular carcinoma.”
The following year included multiple surgeries, 16 rounds of chemotherapy and a lot of dark days, emotionally, physically and spiritually. As my family and I walked through that darkness, we were amazed at the outpouring of love and support from our friends, family and community. It was truly the light in our darkness, and it carried us through.
As I neared the end of treatment, I vowed to find a way to pay that light forward. Inspired by my Aunt B, who battled metastatic breast cancer for 18 years, B the Light was started.
What I found to be pivotal in my healing was getting away, taking a break from the word cancer, with my family to focus on feeling whole again.
Those experiences inspired B the Light to start our HOPE Getaways program. With your help, we are enabling survivors to escape and rejuvenate at a time when it is so needed!
